Scotmid took pride of place at an event celebrating Scottish Co-operatives last night.
The Scottish Parliament was the venue for a reception to
celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives, hosted by James
Kelly MSP, on behalf of the Cross Party Group on
Co-operatives.
Scotmid were co-sponsors of the event with The Co-operative.
Both Societies displayed their wares along with several other
co-ops and co-operative support agencies to an audience of invited
guests of politicians and fellow co-operators including John
Swinney MSP and Sarah Boyack MSP.
The event was organised as part of the 2012 International Year
of Co-operatives celebrations in recognition of the fantastic work
carried out by co-operatives and their supporters in
Scotland.
Speakers included Malcolm Brown, Scotmid's Head of Corporate
Communications and The Co-operatives Robin
Stewart with an introduction by Convener of the Cross Party
Group, James Kelly MSP. A surprise addition, John Swinney MSP also
addressed the celebration, remembering fondly queuing at St
Cuthbert's Bread Street store on 'divvi day' and able to
recall his Mother's St Cuthbert's dividend number.
As the birthplace of a global co-operative movement, the UK will be
at the heart of the International Year of Co-operatives in 2012 as
1.4 million co-operatives across the globe celebrate and show how
they build a better world.
